Dan Levinson's Gotham SophistiCats

featuring Molly Ryan, James Wiggan, & Blind Boy Paxton

Dan Levinson’s Gotham SophistiCats brings together the cream of New York City's flourishing hot jazz scene. Fronted by world-class reedman Dan Levinson and featuring the enchanting vocalist Molly Ryan, the Gotham SophistiCats blend hot, stomping 1920s jazz with the classy elegance of the 1930s. This captivating ensemble was one of three bands chosen to appear at New York City's famed Café Carlyle as part of its "Hot Jazz at Café Carlyle" series. In addition, the group has appeared at such other NYC events as Winter JazzFest, Bryant Park's "Dance Party", and the New York Hot Jazz Festival.

A specialist in Traditional Jazz and Swing during his twenty-year career, clarinetist, Levinson has appeared alongside such prominent artists as Dick Hyman, Mel Tormé, Wynton Marsalis, Howard Alden, and many more. Equally at home as both a leader and sideman, Levinson has become one of the most prolific musicians on the scene. He has been a member of Vince Giordano's Nighthawks for two decades, and has been featured with them on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion radio program and at Carnegie Hall.
