One of the top performers from the Hot Jazz Renaissance generation, trumpeter, vocalist, composer and bandleader, BRIA SKONBERG was twice named a Rising Star by DownBeat, and nominated for Up and Coming Jazz Artist by Jazz Journalist Association. Last year, Skonberg racked up a Bistro Award for an Outstanding Jazz Artist and swept the 2014 Hot House Jazz Magazine Awards in all categories nominated: Best Jazz Artist, Best Trumpet, Best Female Vocalist and Best Group for the Bria Skonberg Quartet. Hailing from Chilliwack, British Columbia, Skonberg moved from her native Canada to New York City and, in just a few years, has headlined in concert halls and clubs such as Symphony Space, Birdland, The Iridium, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Cafe Carlyle and The Town Hall. Bria focuses on innovating while honoring tradition; she has studied with Warren Vaché, experimented with fuzz pedals and presented a gig fusing jazz and stand up comedy. Those stylistic adventures can be heard on on her album Into Your Own (Random Act Records). Her debut US release So Is the Day peaked at #7 on the US National jazz charts; it features mostly original material and an all-star ensemble including John Pizzarelli, Victor Goines and Wycliffe Gordon. Released on Random Act Records (with 10% of all proceeds go to support the Jazz Foundation of America). The Wall Street Journal jazz critic Will Friedwald said, "If Louis Armstrong and Doris Day could somehow be the same person, they'd be Bria Skonberg."
