“Like Peggy Lee on a Vespa” - Marc Myers, Jazzwax.
“She’s truly one of the best swing-style vocalists (I’m talking 1940, Benny Goodman style 4/4 swing) on the current scene..” - Will Friedwald
Popular British born / Australian raised jazz vocalist Hetty Kate is often lauded for her ‘natural musicality’, timbre and swing; and these qualities have made her sought after by audiences and musicians alike. Hetty has performed as a professional vocalist for only a decade, but in that time has certainly made her mark on both the Australian and international jazz scenes. She is one of Australian jazz luminary James Morrison’s favourite singers, having spent three years singing as part of his touring bands; and has graced stages and festivals from New Zealand to New York, fronting her own groups and as the guest of many others.
James Morrison remarks that Hetty has "a stage presence only matched by the clarity of her voice" and thus included her as the featured soloist for his international sell-out symphonic concert 'The A to Z of Jazz' - which toured Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Europe from 2014-2016. This concert traversed the history of jazz and yielded a live recording which won a coveted ‘Bell Award’ in the Australian National Jazz Awards in May 2015. With an affinity for swing music from the 1930s and 40s, Hetty is also a popular vocalist for the ever-growing lindy-hop and swing scenes around the world, having recorded a best-selling album of classics and curios with pianist Gordon Webster in 2014.
