Jon-Erik Kellso's Mahogany Hall Pleasure Society Jazz Band
Featuring Brianna Thomas
9:30 Sun Oct 30 - Hotter Than That: Louis Armstrong's Hot Fives & Hot Sevens
Mahogany Hall Pleasure Society Jazz Band under the direction of Jon-Erik Kellso is one of the bands that came out directly from the New York Hot Jazz Festival. It is dedicated solely to presenting and celebrating repertoire of early jazz band leaders and composers with deep roots in New Orleans. Other notable members of the Mahogany Hall include Grammy winning banjoist Eddy Davis and young traditional clarinet star Evan Arntsen, who has been recently listed in Vanity Fair among top young jazz musicians on the scene today. Joining them for this special tribute to Louis Armstrong's seminal Hot Fives recordings is one of the greatest jazz singers of her generation, the inspiring Brianna Thomas.
Trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso is a first-call hot jazz musician who recently performed this same repertoire at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola alongside Wynton Marsalis. In addition to being a prolific recording artist and a long-term member of Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks, Kellso is also an acclaimed bandleader with projects ranging from his flagship EarRegulars to this one.
